The Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of California, Riverside is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Howard Salis to its faculty. Professor Salis brings a distinguished record of research and innovation in the fields of synthetic biology, computational design, and bioengineering.

The research in the Salis laboratory focuses on developing advanced computational tools and experimental methods to design biological systems with precision and efficiency. These contributions have had a transformative impact on biotechnology and environmental applications, aligning closely with UCR’s mission to advance sustainable solutions for global challenges.

Professor Salis joins UCR from Penn State University, where he led pioneering projects that bridged engineering principles with biological sciences. At UCR, he will continue to push the boundaries of interdisciplinary research, mentor the next generation of engineers and scientists, and collaborate across departments to address pressing environmental and societal needs.
