Alejandro Gallegos is a shining example of academic excellence and professional achievement. His journey began as a sophomore undergraduate assistant in our research group, where he demonstrated exceptional curiosity and dedication. Under close mentorship, Alejandro completed his University Honors Program diploma project and continued his academic path through both MS and Ph.D. studies in our department. During his graduate studies supervised by Professor Jianzhong Wu, Alejandro secured prestigious funding from the National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP), a testament to his research potential and leadership in engineering innovation. Following the completion of his Ph.D., he accepted a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship at Caltech, further advancing his expertise in cutting-edge research. Alejandro’s accomplishments continued as he was selected by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) as one of only 35 national “eFellows”, recognizing his commitment to advancing engineering education. Today, Alejandro Gallegos serves as an Assistant Professor at New Mexico State University, where he continues to inspire students and contribute to impactful research. His story reflects the transformative power of mentorship and the opportunities available to UC Riverside students to excel at the highest levels of academia and research.
